Heat Recovery Ventilation
Modern energy efficient houses have a high air tightness, this reduces heat loss by preventing hot air leaking out or cold air flooding in, however the house needs a supply of fresh air. Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation (MHRV or HRV) provide a controlled and variable rate of ventilation as well as recovering heat from the stale exhaust air which would normally be lost. As up 20% or more of heat loss in a house can come from air changes it makes sense to try to recover as much of this heat as possible.
